In previous posts I mention my views on mixing Christianity and Witchcraft. This POV was based on my former beliefs as a Catholic, and trying to get those who follow Christian paths to determine their reasons for wanting to practice something so clearly looked down upon by the religion.
I'm not going to get into the reasons why Christians should avoid it, this post is clearing up any misunderstanding that may have developed on my view of mixing the two practices. This post will be from my Witch point of view.
Please, do not get me wrong when it comes to anyone practicing Witchcraft. I believe anyone of any religion (or no religion) can practice whatever they want because Witchcraft is a practice. If I were to say that Christians have absolutely no right to practice Witchcraft, it would make about as much sense as my saying Christians have absolutely no right being artists; or carpenters; or even chefs. Religion has absolutely nothing to do with Witchcraft.
Witchcraft uses no Gods in order to be successful. There is no religious dogma that one must follow in order to successfully practice. Witches work only with their will to create any needed changes in their lives or the lives of questors. They may ask for aid from the spirit world, but that has little to do with worshipping any deities.
Deity worship is an individual preference, not a traditional one. It's not mandatory for anyone practicing Witchcraft to worship any Gods; again, it would be like saying an artist can only be an artist if they believe in a God. This is not true. Witchcraft is a craft. A set of skills. NOT a religion.
Therefore if a Christian wants to practice Witchcraft then they have as much right as any Wiccan, Kabbalist, or Pagan.
The arguement against practice is when one, who practices Christianity, wants to begin engaging in Wicca. Many people out there argue that it shouldn't be a problem for someone to practice Wicca and Christianity together. Well, actually there is. To practice two religions together makes no sense. They would be as compatable as mixing Christianity and Islam together. People get their mixed ideas from people who willfully use the terms "Wicca" and "Witchcraft" interchangably. These two terms DO NOT mean the same thing! If one wants to practice Wicca, they can. If one wants to practice Christianity, they can. BUT if one wants to practice Christianity AND Wicca together, they can't. Mixing two religions together (particularly ones who are on opposite ends of the religious spectrum), leaves the person spiritually unfulfilled because they're trying to please the two religions at once, and that will leave the person spiritually drained. Religion is supposed to fill the soul with happiness and satisfaction; not be stressful and draining.
Christians, please, if you want to practice something alongside your Christianity, PLEASE, do the research on both sides of the coin (Both the views of your religion regarding the practice as well as the practice itself). Learn what it is before you go jumping in with both feet. If you don't you could end up hurting yourself, spiritually speaking.
Welcome to my blog. Enjoy a warm cup of tea and sit for a spell.
