Spiritual Summoning

I encountered a topic on one of the forums I frequent in which a young woman plans to summon a spirit, to be the guardian of her children, and basically do her bidding, so long as she can fulfill their "unfinished business" (to somewhat steal a line from "Casper") on the physical plane.

There is a HUGE "debate" going on throughout this blog post as to the morality of it. Instead of having myself become the latest subject of "misinterpreting" what's being said on there by her (honesly I can't keep up with people's constant bitching of the same thing over and over again), I'm going to post my own feelings here, perhaps to get unbiased opinions from people who may read this blog. (If you wish to view this "debate" see sites here: Blog 1, Blog 2)

I feel this young woman is being irresponsible. I don't care how much experience someone has, one should not summon a spirit to do your bidding. They were once human, and how do humans feel about being general servents to someone? Not too well. It's essentially spiritual slavery (oh yes, she's going to take care of the spirit's unfinished business on the spiritual plane (insert eye roll here)).

For one thing, she doesn't know this spirit from a hole in the wall. She's just planning on summoning some random spirit in a grave yard. How is she so sure that whatever spirit she summons is actually going to be an un-christian, Pagan spirit (as per the characteristics she is setting forth)? Feeling? Intuition? Not always guaranteed. Can we always rely on gut feelings and intuition when we meet a living person to get a feel as to whether or not they are benevolent people? One can have an heir of positivity, kindness and peacefullness about them, while within being completely malevolent, harmful, and perhaps purely evil.

I'll use an example of a truly heinous person that made local news in my area recently. A Base Commander (who I will keep annonymous) was recently convicted of murder and sexual assault spanning 3 years, now currently serving two consecutive life sentences with no chance for parole (thank the good Goddess). A MILITARY BASE COMMANDER! Someone who conveys respect, and peace to those under his command and those he is supposed to help. Many people believed this man was a kind, helpful person...but unbeknownst to the public, this man was a malevolent, heineous, disgusting criminal. From the outside he looked like a regular Joe Blow, helpful to his neighbors and a good friend, only during his down time would sexually assault women and even murdered at least two.

Can one really rely on gut feelings and intuition to determine if someone is TRULY benevolent? Especially a spirit? I think that's kind of naive. This young woman can use her feelings and intuition to get a "sense" of the spirit she summons all she wants, and they could appear to be benevolent when summoned, but once let loose to do it's business could do a complete 180 and be completely malevolent, causing terror and demise to the summoner, and especially HER CHILDREN!

Completely irresponsible in my eyes. I do not engage in spiritual summoning. I think that it's like opening a party line and never knowing who you're going to get. I've never used a Ouija board, (I have used a pendulum, but only a couple of times, and I have since stopped). I only call on the aid of my Goddess. SHE came to me, I didn't summon/call her. I ask my Goddess to lay protection on my family and home. I wouldn't be so irresponsible as to summon some random spirit to protect my family, but then perhaps I care more for my family than she does of hers.

If she actually goes through with this "Spiritual Summoning", I fear for her children and call upon Hecate to place PROPER protection upon her children, and ask she shows this woman the errors in her irresponsible ways.
