American Council of Witches...Revived??

I read in a forum a thread about a revival of the ACW, who disbanded in the mid-70's due to a "difference in opinion" let's say. Really, I can't see this new "American Council of Witches" lasting any longer than the previous one...due to the same thing...a difference in opinion.

Not all Witches believe in the same thing. Hell, not all Witches even believe in the "Principles of Belief" (even though it's labelled as "Wiccan" belief) that was created BY the ACW. I don`t even believe in all principles listed within that "Principles of Belief" list. So how is this going to be beneficial to us Witches who don't adhere to THEIR ethics either? I KNOW there will be in there somewhere a "rule" against "harming", and "law of return" as though all Witches believe this (if not an attempt to simply reinstate their original "Principles of Belief"). I'm not sure what's more insulting...someone determining MY beliefs for me, or radicalists trying to take away the rights of Pagans.

I know I've blogged about this before, but...Pagans need to stop being pushovers! They need to stop complaining about what radical groups are doing, and need to focus on their own practices. In North America, it is NOT illegal to practice one's personal beliefs, regardless of what they are, so why act as if it is. Why back down when confronted by radicals or fundamentalists? Stand up to them. The more who stand up to those who push you down, the more those radical, fundamentalists will back down themselves.

The ACW disbanded because they couldn't come to a 100% consensus on beliefs that satisfied everyone. It's impossible with such a varied system. If anything, this will drive groups away, as opposed to bringing groups together, because they will have to define traditions/groups/practices, and there are people out there who don't fit into ONE specified category. In fact, there are more eclectics out there than there were in the mid-70's.

Personally I think it's a bad idea.
