Complex Complexes

Ah, but another post on complexes. However this time it's not about superiority. It's about persecution.

The dreaded persecution complex. The complex that determines someone can gripe and feel sorry for themselves because they **think** their "constitutional rights" or whatever, are being discriminated against...especially by family members, simply because they're Wiccan. And it's mostly Wiccans I hear this nonsense from (I think these types of complexes are just as bad as superiority complexes. It's just the other extreme end of the spectrum).

1) "I can't practice because mom/dad takes my things and burns them/throws them out"
--Well...for one thing, you're in mom/dad's home and they DO make the rules. Don't like it? (for the minor) live with it. Mom and dad have the say of what you can and cannot do in their home. When you have a mortgage, THEN you can make the rules. (legal adult) If you're paying rent, then it's destruction of personal property...THEN you can say something. If not...move out OR live with it.

2) "I can't move out or pay rent, so I have to live with my parents...I shouldn't have to explain my practice or have my things taken away"
--Uh...it's mom and dad's home. Regardless of if you're an adult, you should be off your butt and gotten a job to pay rent for even a small 1 bedroom apartment and out on your own. You shouldn't be mooching off mom and dad. If you're living with mom and dad without paying rent...they have the say of what goes in and on in their house. Again...when you have the mortgage...then you can do what you want.

3) "I have freedom of religion. They can't treat me this way"
--True...but then you also don't have the right to treat your parents as though they were Nazi's trying to burn you at the stake. They don't deserve to have their beliefs mocked and condemned by anyone just as you don't deserve to have your beliefs mocked and condemned. Choose to find common ground...OR MOVE OUT!!! If you're beliefs are so important to you, you would choose to be homeless, then I think you have your priorities out of sync. Yes, having beliefs is fine, but choosing to practice them over having food and shelter (things you need to live) is nonsense. I personally would rather do full blown practices out in a secluded forested area and do subtle quiet rituals (prayers on prayer beads; small lit candle; quiet meditation, etc) in my home if it is also occupied by those who don't understand, then live in a cardboard box with no food and an altar. But then, I've grown up and moved out of my parents home and into a home of my own where I don't have to hide nor explain anything to anyone.

If you, the grown adult, are so tired of listening to the fundamentalist attitude you seem to label anyone who doesn't agree with you and your beliefs, then my advice is to move out. Plain and simple. Stop making stupid excuses as to why you can't. If it's that bad, then you have no excuse not to move out. If you're too lazy to find a place of your own, then stop complaining about the situation mom and dad create at home. It's THEIR home, and what they say goes!

If you're a minor, wait until you're older...THEN move out! It can't get any simpler than that! There are ALWAYS places looking for people to hire. Work at McDonalds, work at a 7-11 Kwike-Mart, work at a donut shop, work as a garbage wo/man...there's NO reason why you can't pay rent to get out of the situation you deem undesirable.

STOP WITH THE EXCUSES!!!

  1. VERY well said. This hols true for any adults who cry and moan about how terrible it is to live with their parents. You CAN find cheap housing. Do you and your parents a favor and find some. It might not be up to the standard that your used to, but it'll be your domain to live in and do whatever you want to in...with whomever you want to. At some point, you have to cut the umbilical.....
