44 Days of Witchery: Day 9 - A Favorite Mythological Animal

I have always loved the Phoenix (though I often get the name confused with "Gryphon", probably because I love just the name, the spelling etc).

I have always been intrigued by this bird. I love the symbolism of it...reincarnation: Dramatic death to rebirth.  I don't remember where I first encountered this bird, but I remember vividly one scene from one of the Harry Potter movies, where Dumbledore's Phoenix was about to die, and Harry Potter watched. It became engulfed in flame, and turned to ash...when a few moments later, a small baby Phoenix sprang from the ashes.  It was a beautiful sight. (At least I think it was from Harry Potter lol).

Anyways. Perhaps this is the perfect time to do a little research on the bird. Let's see...

(From Wikipedia)
-500-1000 year life-cycle.
-Near the end, it builds itself a nest of twigs, then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ash, from which a new phoenix or egg arises.
-It is said that the bird's cry is that of a beautiful song.
-It's ability to be reborn from its own ashes implies immortality.

How very interesting. Perhaps new research material for my Book of Shadows, to be placed under "Animals". Perhaps the reason I love the phoenix is due to my love of fire. I LOVE fire. No, I'm not a pyromaniac, lol, but I love the vision of hundreds of lit candles, bonfires, lighters. If I could touch fire without being burned, I'm sure (almost positive) it's texture would be quite soft. I can become quite hypnotized by looking at fire. I'd meditate upon a number of candles if I could.
