Ouija Boards, and Why I Will Never Own One

With the continuing rise in "shock" horror movies coming out...someone decided to come out with a movie about the Ouija Board. The commercial prompted a family discussion after my son asking about one.

Me: "We will never get a Ouija Board"
My Son: "Aww, why not???

This is one of the few "supernatural" and/or spiritual things my husband and I agree on; that a Ouija board will never enter this house. Why, one asks. I've had a bad feeling towards the Ouija Board even before watching all these silly tv shows where kids play with them, AND becoming a Pagan. My stance on spirits is unless they contact me directly on their own, I leave them alone. I used an analogy with my son:

"How would you feel if you were all comfy cozy in your bed, sleeping peacefully, having great dreams, then all of a sudden someone runs into your room, turns on the light, shakes you awake to ask you a stupid question?"

That's essentially what people do when they pull out a Ouija Board and start a session. They're essentially turning on a massive light, and shaking all the beds in the spirit world. No damned wonder people have scary experiences with these boards. Oh, sure like everything there are a few people who have less scary experiences with these things, but that doesn't mean one day you may piss off someone you didn't intend to.

Just because spirits are no longer a part of a physical entity, doesn't mean they don't deserve the same respect a living person does. Do you go into some random house and yell out "Is someone here??" then when they respond, do you ask "When will I die??" or whatever other stupid question pops into the mind of someone using these ridiculous things.

When the opportunity comes where you have access to one, think about the above analogy before starting a session. Do you believe spirits are your slaves forced to answer your nonsensical questions, or are they former humans who deserve some respect and should be left to sleep?
