Using Religion as an Excuse for Illegal Acts

Religion does not excuse illegal acts. Plain and simple. When you do something illegal, whether religious in nature or not, and whether it wasn't intended to be harmful or not, it's still illegal, and one MUST abide by the laws of the land. Religion is not above the law.



For example, someone makes a claim they were "inappropriate" with a minor child in some sort of "wiccanning" process. Just because you are Pagan or Wiccan doesn't excuse the illegal nature of your actions.

If you commit an illegal act with a minor...it's STILL Illegal!!! Just because you are Wiccan doesn't excuse that! (and THIS is why it's so important to interview potential covens, and to STAY AWAY from ANY coven that takes in minors without parental consent).

People committing "honor killings" of family members don't get a slap on the wrist. They go to prison for murder. Just because your beliefs tell you it's ok to do something illegal, doesn't mean you won't go to jail or even prison for it.

Religion is not an excuse to do illegal acts. It doesn't make it legal because you are doing it within a religious setting. If that were the case, no one would be trying to shut down the polygamist Mormans in Texas who are marrying off teenage girls to elderly men, and the guys who took down the twin towers would have been met with a "Meh".
