Ok...perhaps not "52" topics, but a number nonetheless.
Parusing the internet out of pure boredom.....
1) "The Season of the Witch"
Offensive? Only to those who take their practice a little TOO seriously, so much so that they can't appreciate fiction. I'm not one whose going to nitpick over fictional movies.
Ok, if this move were to come with the disclaimer of "This movie is base upon real events"...then perhaps a bit of offense may be taken by me...HOWEVER, this is a work of fiction, a story, not unlike many other stories out there in the world. Am I offended at the Brother's Grimm's portrayal of the Witch in Hansel and Gretel? Am I going to cry persecution because Gretel pushed the Witch into the oven? No...I'm going to continue reading the story to my kids because they enjoy the story. But then....**I** can tell the difference between works of fiction, and fact. I'm sorry there are people (both in the Pagan community and outside it) who can't.
2) "Blogging Moderation"
Cowardly you say? I say being responsible for my site and not making it into someone elses personal bashing site. Sorry if you don't like my blog being moderated, but it's my choice, and I CHOOSE not to have idiots bashing my every word simply because they don't like what I have to say. I have had numerous people try to put down my practice simply because THEY can't tell the difference between fiction and reality. I don't have to put up with someone else's crap. If they have something to say to me, and I find it offensive, I'm NOT going to subject my readers to such crap. I'm gonna delete it. Don't like it? Go cry to your mama. My moderation of comments has absolutely NOTHING to do with my not liking someone's retort to what I have to say or someone else trying to incite debate (in fact I welcome debate). If someone has somethng to say to me that's worth my time (regardless of it's tone) I will publish it, but if someone's going to come off and insult me for believing what I believe, you better believe NO ONE'S gonna read it.
3) "Goddess Image"
Yeah, I can understand that the Goddess may not be portrayed as some super skinny "barbie doll" in your eyes...to YOU, you may see her as a chubby woman, filled with rolls, and a belly. Sure. BUT remember, that up until fairly recent centuries, women weren't always so chubby. Sure, today's "average woman" may be a size 14, but back then, women were FAR more active, therefore didn't have time to sit on their arse eating bonbons letting their arse grow fat. Some actually WERE skinny-minnies. This is also true of the portrayal of many Goddesses. Hecate, for example is portrayed as an "average" sized woman (not super skinny, nor extremely fat), in maiden format, wearing a skirt and hunting boots. Is this offensive? Take it up with her. Don't like the portrayals of modern "Goddess" art? No one's forcing you to look at it. There are some in this world who do not view the Goddess as the "Venus Wellendorf".
4) "D-A-D-T Repeal. Thanks Gaga"?????
I recently read someone somewhere thanking Lady Gaga for the repeal of the US Military's policy of "Don't Ask Don't Tell", in which gay members were told not to disclose their sexual orientation. Ok, this repeal is a big step forward for the Gay rights movement (but it's far from over). This is not my rant.
My rant is...why should we give sole gratitude to Lady Gaga for this??? She didn't single handedly repeal the policy! It was the US senate and Barak Obama. Why not thank those who finally got their heads out of their butts and realized that everyone has rights in the country, and always had and that such laws were unconstitutional; against those rights. Gaga didn't do it all herself...yes, she did make her voice known about this issue, but she didn't get the laws repealed herself...therefore I think that to give sole credit to her, is erroneous (my most popular word).
5) "Salvation Army's denial of "certain" toys"
The Salvation Army (being a Christian organization) has the absolute right to deny any toys they do not approve of or find unsafe. For one thing, not all Salvation Army branches are denying toys from popular movies like "Harry Potter" or "Twilight", however the ones who are, are only doing so according to their beliefs. If a Pagan organization were to accept toys, would they be offended by donations of jesus toys, praying dolls, bibles, prayer books etc? I'm sure many organizations would (im not so naive as to not believe there ARE Pagans out there with so much animosity as to flat out deny the donations of such items). There's no difference. I think there are entirely too many pagans out there getting their panties in a bunch over TOTAL nonsense. This is just one prime example.
Boredome can lead to interesting things...perhaps I should do this more often (instead of posting short little posts, mishmash again!!!
Blessed Be!!

#2 Thank You!! My sense of empathy is painfully heightened, so not only does watching the news make me cry, but reading viscous comments makes my heart sink and my skin crawl. Even when they aren't directed towards me. I feel awful that you (or anyone for that matter) are subjected to them! One of the purposes of a blog is to have a space to post your opinions. It constantly baffles me that people take such offense to blog posts and feel the need to tear into the authors. Did they forget said purpose of a blog? Did they forget that they are in no way obligated to read a blog post? Hmpf.. some people..
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

You're certainly welcome. This post wasn't directed at what anyone has said about my blog recently, however I read a (ironically) blog post about moderating blog posts. I was taken aback when someone felt that moderating comments was a cowardly thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% with you, in that a person is NOT obligated to read a blog post, nor are they obligated to respond. If they don't like what I have to say (or anyone for that matter), they don't have to read it. End of story.
Thank you for your comment. :)
