Gotta love those who voice their opinions so openly regardless of what they're actually saying.
For instance, there are many new people to Pagan religions all the time (namely Wiccan and Witches here). Wiccans have their ethics of "An it harm none, do as thou will" and there are many a naive novice who takes it to mean "do absolutely no harm whatsoever" ("forgetting the do as thou will" part). Now it's plain enough the naivety of what they believe this "Rede" to mean. It doesn't mean do no harm whatsoever (because really, come on people, there is absolutely NO way someone can never do harm). But this naivety goes both ways.
I'm getting at curses here. I've encountered some people who will practice cursing for the mere idea that it's the complete opposite of this "Wiccan Rede" and it comes across as these people merely rebelling against something that really isn't a part of their ethical foundation to begin with.
Ok...so you practice cursing. To each his own. Big deal. If you're not Wiccan (who believe curses to be against their Rede), what does it matter? Does someone else's opinion of what you do really that important? It's YOUR ethics you have to deal with when cursing someone. If you feel there is some necessity behind your actions, by all means, do what you gotta do.
But for someone to say "I curse because I don't care about this silly 'Wiccan Rede' or 'Threefold Law' because it's just some fluffy BS that really means nothing and is just a derivitive of the Christian Ten Commandments or other Christian ethical values". Ok, so what...you're just cursing because it's against another religion's ethics? I think you're taking on something VERY powerful for ALL the wrong reasons (and in my opinion, I hope it turns around and bites you in the arse). Curses aren't something to take lightly. I'm not afraid of curses. I just feel they're not something to use willy-nilly...like many use spells for. Spells are (in my opinion) somewhat less powerful than curses (because curses require a lot of feeling and energy for it to be effective...not that spells don't require feeling and energy, but...it's hard to explain).
I think that for people to simply use curses simply as a retort to what they believe to be "fluffy behavior" by a neo religion, shows just as much naivety and inexperience as any Wiccan claiming the Rede to mean no harm EVER!!!
What goes around DOES come around (I just don't believe it to be preset). Watch your arse when flinging out something you're not really prepared for...only going through motions.
