I had a somewhat frightening experience upon waking this morning. Sleep Paralysis. I had never experienced this before. Ok, I wasn't really "frightened" but it was slightly unsettling. I knew right away what it was, which is interesting. I was lying in bed...on my back. I was waking up, but my eyes weren't quite opened. I could sense my surroundings, but I couldn't move. I couldn't even speak. I knew I wasn't dreaming because everything was where it was when I fully woke as it was when I was sleep paralyzed. my dog was beside me and I was in my covers. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't move. It confused me, so I tried calling my dog, but the only thing that came out was more like a moan. I tried again, and the same thing. It was so weird.
I guess I fell asleep again, pretty much giving up trying to talk, because the next thing I remember was my alarm waking me up.
Weird lol.
Welcome to my blog. Enjoy a warm cup of tea and sit for a spell.

I've only ever experienced it once, the morning before me and my grandparents left to go to their house a few states away. Grandma woke me up to get dressed and I couldn't move, so I just laid there until it was over. Nothing scary or unsettling in it IMO, just a strange sorta fascination
ReplyDeleteI found it slightly unsettling considering I had no idea why I couldn't move until I realized it was sleep paralysis. I understand it's actually common, and possibly caused by waking before the end of the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) cycle of sleep. Interesting.
