So many people wanting to "get into" Wicca have been saying this...what the heck does that mean? Do THEY even know what that means? What does it mean to be "in tune" with nature, and what the heck does it have to do with Wicca???
What is Wicca? MUST...we go through definitions again???
Wicca (and I'll just borrow a little snippet from "Wicca: For the Rest of Us" here for a little help)
-is a polytheistic religion focusing upon dedication to patron deities, typically a God and Goddess
-is a modern religion influenced by a variety of pre-Christian beliefs
-views the spiritual and material worlds as overlapping: the Gods are not distant beings but entities whose presence we can experience
-stresses personal experience with divinity and developing greater harmony with the larger world
-views the universe as the product of complementary opposites in a system roughly akin to the Chinese concept of Yin and Yang
-teaches that we are all ultimately responsible for our own actions
Now, where in this description of the religion of Wicca, does it say that one MUST be "in tune" with nature? No where in any of the books I've read, sites I've seen and forums I've discussed in has ANYONE ever said that it is MANDATORY in the religion of Wicca that one must be "in tune" with nature. Sure, it's encouraging for one to understand the fragile nature that is Nature, but it is NOT mandatory that one respect nor revere nature. That's for anyone to decide.
So where does this "concept" come from? That's got me baffled, because how can I answer someone's question on how to become Wiccan, when I don't even understand the question being asked? Wicca is not about being "in tune" with Nature, its about relating to the God and Goddess. If you're putting nature veneration before God and Goddess veneration, then that's not Wicca. That's backwards. Nature is not to be worshiped, and that's probably where this "in tune" nonsense is coming from...naive children seeing "false" Wicca being described in books like "Sweeps" or shows like "The Secret Circle" saying it's all about nature worship, and then saying they want to become Wiccan simply because they want to be "in tune" with nature. Hogwash, if you ask me. If you want to become a part of Wicca, then that must mean you want to build a relationship with Gods that have called to you, not because you want to worship nature.
You want to worship nature? Go outside and hug and dance around a tree, but I doubt you're going to receive any satisfaction from it.
