Christians, and Wiccan Neighbors

There seems to be a bone of contention out there when a family with alternative beliefs moves into a neighborhood, next to a Christian family. Many Christians would be concerned that these people would attempt to "convert" them to this alternative beliefs.

First of all, Wiccans, Pagans and others of alternative beliefs don't believe in "converting" people if they don't want to be converted. In the minds of Pagans, that's just rude. So when you get Jehovah's Witnesses come to your door to peddle their religion, they look at these JW's as rude. Many Christians see (in their imagination) attempting to convert people to their Pagan ways as distasteful, but then here you have Jehovah's Witnesses doing this exact thing. There's a contradiction if I ever heard it. They're afraid of being converted yet they see no problems with converting people to THEIR religion. How sad.

But I digress. Mandi See (I love her) posted another video about how "Wiccans will destroy your children" (the actual video she talks about doesn't actually start until about 15 mins into the video, so you may just want to jump ahead, unless you want to see her unboxing some goodies in her store). Now, a "reporter" for a Pat Robertson television program (I put reporter in quotes because I can't see someone spending a lot of money in schooling to report for a Pat Robertson program) put up a letter someone wrote them about a family of Wiccans moving in next door, and wondered if they should let their son be friends with the (Wiccan) daughter.

First of all...I don't know the religion of the children's families my daughter plays with, nor is it any of my business. I personally don't care so long as they're not filling her head with nonsense (by nonsense I mean "Pagans are evil devil worshipers", "You'll go to hell if you're not Christian" etc). Be friends with your neighbors because you're going to be living in the neighborhood for, probably a long time. Having a war with your neighbor over something as stupid as their religion is really asking for trouble where none is needed. I could see having a problem if your neighbor was a pedophile or a murderer, but a person being another religion than you (one you don't understand, at that) is probably the least of your concerns. If you're really worried that you'll be converted, then you're not really strong in your spirituality, now are you. A person can learn, study and understand another religion WITHOUT becoming a part of it if their faith in their religion is strong. I have strong faith in my beliefs, which is why no JW is going to succeed in converting me (try as they might).

Second of all...when you judge these people for their beliefs, you're not being very Christian at all. It says in you VERY OWN Bible: "Judge not lest ye be judged". So when you judge your neighbors for being Wiccan, you are violating this rule, and in the end will be judged during your judgement day. Were you loving your neighbor as Jesus has loved you? I don't think so. You were fussing and worrying about how they might convert you or corrupt your children. You weren't being a very Christian neighbor, but being a very vindictive and judgey person.

The woman in the letter asks at the end "What is the Christian thing to do" then the video cuts to an "evangelical" preacher woman who, in a rather threatening tone goes to say "Had it been in the old testament, Harry Potter would have been put to death!".

WHAT KIND OF CHRISTIAN THING IS THAT TO SAY??? Christians claim to be a peaceful group, but then you promote people with this kind of mentality?? If magicians were so evil in the old testament, then Jesus was rightly put to death as he also was a magician, as he was able to do things that were misunderstood and could have been seen as magic. So to condemn Harry Potter for the things he does is to condemn Jesus. Rules don't change out of convenience. "Oh Jesus was a miracle worker so he didn't deserve to die"....so, because he was somehow different (in no way one wants to realistically point out, he didn't deserve to die, but Harry Potter does because he battled his own enemy? Pot, meet kettle.

The bible also says "Thou Shalt Not Kill". So for anyone in the Old Testament to have killed Harry Potter for being different was violating their own rules, but out of convenience, they wouldn't be punished because it's ok to go against the bible when it suits you.

I'm sorry, I can't do responses to hypocritical Christians as calmly as Mandi can. This type of mentality (even when I was Christian) infuriates me. People who use the bible to justify their disgusting behaviour is everything wrong with the religion. I understand what Christianity is, then I see vomitous displays like this and it makes me weep for their children because they're raising their children to violate their religion's rules. It's almost like they became Christian just so they can be so hideous.

I can't continue with the video.
