A TV Rant

My sister-in-law enjoys these occult-ish tv shows. Sure, they're good for a little entertainment, but it really irritates me the poor portayal they put on symbols and craft related information.

Supernatural is perhaps one that irritates me the most...and it pains me to say this as this is my s-i-l's FAVORITE show. The most humorous episode I saw was the halloween episode (and I didn't even watch it all). The character "Sam" describes the Witches Sabbat Holiday to his brother "Dean" and claims it a holiday dedicated to the Pagan God "Sam Hain". I'm sorry, but I laughed hysterically when I heard him say the name of this "God". Ok, I'm a little sketchy about Samhain (which, for novices who may read this's benefit, it's pronounced "Sow-In; or Sow-een), and whether or not it was named after any Gods or not...but is it so difficult for producers and writers to do a tiny bit of research? (I mean Come On, there's TONS of it on the internet, all corresponding to each other, it's not that difficult to find!)

Look at the piss-poor job they did at portraying Wiccans on the episode of "The Mentalist" recently. Claiming that "Cowans" are evil people, simply because they're not wiccan.

I would just like to gather all writers, producers, directors, WHATEVER, planning on doing any more "occultish" tv shows/movies/books and make them understand what we do. Make them understand that THEY are contributing to the poor view we are seen as. They repeat the lies and ignorant information the Church spewed about us centuries ago, and profit from it, and I for one find it growing tiresome EXTREMELY fast!

(sorry I am tired of seeing all these media reports from churches claiming that because some idiot posted a note with the arms of a dead rabbit on the door, then they automatically assume IT MUST BE THOSE NASTY PAGANS!!!.....UGH!!!

  1. So that's where Carol Kornacki got that idea... By the way, Samhain is not named for a god, but is Gaelic for "Summer's End". And the show Charmed is another culprit (although I love it for it's entertainment value anyway).
