Ok, I went to this site with all intentions and purposes of slamming it, as I have nothing at all against Wicca or wiccans, as I know a few wiccans and they are perfectly respectiable citizens with no fluffy qualities.
However, this site had some good information, at least for my taste. I do believe a lot of what this author said, that many wiccans are "Good, practice white witchcraft and would NEVER DREAM of doing anything relating to dark magic"; well, at least the newbies who are around 12-14 years old and have watched "Charmed" and "The Craft" religiously (now, I know not all of them are like this so don't slam me). Hardly, I say. Many wiccan understand the concept of a little thing called Balance and that magic really has no color. I have had discussions with many a wiccan and they do understand that intention has everything to do with their practices and the spell is just the title. AND Spells really have nothing to do with Wicca to begin with. Newbies come to the craft thinking that it's this new deal with witchcraft, without having this terrifying title of "Witch" to go along with it. They can comfortably call themselves a Wiccan and claim they do all the good in the world. The problem with this is a little thing called being called a "fluffy bunny". Also, they come to wicca with the intention that they can do spells that will involve pretty sparkly lights once a few lines of an incantaion are read and a few candles are lit and a few herbs sprinkled here and there. Oh my, how I wish things were that simple, but alas that is, again, a product of Hollywood. Oh if life was a hollywood movie in which anything we want is in our hands in the blink of an eye, or the one who is annoying us is humiliated at a simple thought. But again, alas, the world is not like this and neither is spell crafting.
Back to the Topic: While this site's title wasn't really well thought up, it does make sense, despite a few touchy people who read the title and not the rest of the content. It's not slamming Wicca the religion, which does have it's good qualities. It's slamming the ignorant, naive Wiccans who believe that they can only practice good spell work, and can only think good pretty thoughts and that anything that would involve doing anything slightly negative (say thinking ill of the person in question for a spell) is evil and should be avoided at all costs. Negative thoughts are not evil. Everyone has them...everyone hates their boss, has tiffs with friends and relatives, and even wish something bad would happen to make themselves feel better...but thoughts like these don't make a person evil. It's the naivety of these people that gives Wicca a bad name, and these naive wiccans are why people see Wicca as a Fluffy religion. In turn, this gives Witches a bad name as many Wiccans choose to call themselves Witches, thinking the exact same thing...they practice White Witchcraft in which everything is pretty posies and rainbows.
Now, I started out Wiccan. I too was naive when I started out, but I did a little thing called research and discovered that I wanted to pursue a more traditional form of Witchcraft, what the ancient people did, and I learned that having a negative thought is not evil...it's natural. THIS is true balance. You can't be a White Witch and be balanced at the same time. Nature isn't fluffy clouds and sunny skies all the time...sometimes Nature can be a bitch too. THIS is what the site is trying to say (at least this is what I get from it). If I could come up with a site like this I probably would, but at least I would title it better...I mean "Why Wiccan's Suck" is just rude and unnecessary in my view.
