My mom and dad came to visit this weekend to celebrate my little girl's 3rd birthday. During their stay, my mother and I made a salve, and (surprising to me) it was unbelievablely easy.
We made a plantain salve which is good for insect bites, burns and sores, which is good because my 5 year old son constantly gets bites from blackflies and they get quite swollen, red and itchy. I placed our newly made concoction on a bite he had, only to be surprised at how quickly it began healing his insect bite (one behind his ear). It's only a touch red but not as swollen anymore. Now this could be a coincidence, so I also placed some of the salve on a cut he had on his finger, and a scratch I got on my hand from helping my husband.
We're all guinea pigs now...lets see how well our newly made "M'shkiki" (medicine) or "organic salve" works!

Thanks for the link. I'll have to try that if anyone in my family gets bug bites.
ReplyDeleteI find that I can ground and draw earth energy into myself in a way that repels mosquitos and other biting insects, and can also put that energy onto others. There's no real ritual to it for me, it's just a matter of focus and intention. But then, I would say that most ritual is merely a technique to create the sort of focus and intention necessary to link the conscious mind to the creative unconscious. I know that in doing that I am depriving the bugs of a meal, for which I beg their pardon.
I can only seem to get bees to go away by verbal command (most of the time), not mosquitos and blackflies, lol. They just don't listen to me :)
ReplyDeleteThe link provided also has a listing of other plants than Plantain, and other recipes if you would like try making other things :)
